Meet Antonio Teoli | Music Composer for Games and Film
We had the good fortune of connecting with Antonio Teoli and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Antonio, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
My favorite quote of all time comes from Walt Disney: “I like the impossible because there is less competition!”
This quote really puts my mind into a particular state where I feel that if I push myself hard enough to do something that no one else is doing, I can achieve great things. I like to be far from my comfort zone as much as possible.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Since my early days, storytelling has always been my passion. While I never excelled with words, I found a deep connection with music notes, thanks in part to my father who started teaching me music before I was even a year old. Born and raised in Brazil, my musical journey began with learning piano at the age of 7. By 12, I was playing tuba in a local orchestra, and by 14, I was rocking out in bands.
At 17, I delved into composing music for video games, my favorite medium. 16 years later since I started as a game composer and over 450 projects under my belt, I’ve embarked on a new chapter in Los Angeles. Here, I’m working to establish myself as an artist and also laying the foundation for my new company, Andromeda Sound LLC.
Some of my most notable projects include Sonic 30th Anniversary, Marvel Future Revolution Symphony, Nintendo Good Job!, Dolmen, Stormbound, Nailed-It!, Angra, The Sandbox, Finding Monsters, Lottie Dottie Chicken, Felipe Andreoli, Graham Bonnet, Noblesse, Takt Op. Destiny, and Shadowverse. I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with esteemed clients such as Nintendo, DeNA, Paladin Studios, SEGA, Netflix, Madhouse Studios, Mappa, Samsung, LEAP Game Studios, Limit Break, Hoplon, VICE, Level Up, Marvel, and many others.
One of my most exciting recent endeavors involves collaborating with Bruce Dickinson, the legendary lead singer of Iron Maiden. It’s truly a project that ignites my passion like never before.
But that’s not all. I’m also proud to oversee two other ventures. One is Sounds of the Earth, dedicated to showcasing the music of indigenous communities, with our inaugural project titled The Amazonic. Every aspect of this endeavor is intertwined with social causes, a source of immense pride for me. The other is Game Audio School, an online platform where enthusiasts can learn the art of creating audio for video games.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s a great question! I would begin the trip by heading to Santa Monica Beach early in the morning, then drive up to the Walk of Fame. We’d have lunch at Fogo de Chão – after all, I am still Brazilian – followed by a visit to the Guitar Center at Sunset and The Grove. We’d wrap up the night with a combination of exploring L.A.’s nightlife scene and attending a concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My heartfelt gratitude goes to my parents, Angela and Ademir, who have always supported me and lifted me up, especially during moments of self-doubt and professional insecurities. Despite facing severe financial challenges, they instilled in me the importance of pursuing my dreams.
I also extend my deepest appreciation to two individuals who have played pivotal roles in my journey. Firstly, my mentor Marcelo Nunes de Carvalho, who offered me my first job in the game industry as a composer when I was just 17. His patience and guidance were invaluable as he shared his knowledge and expertise with me.
Lastly, but certainly not least, I want to express my gratitude to Savina Ciaramella, whom I had the pleasure of meeting last year. In a short time, she has become not only a friend but also family to me. Savina’s extensive background in the music business and her mentorship in Los Angeles have been invaluable to my growth and development.
