Samsung unveils Research and Development Center as a benchmark in the Americas
From the Newsroom - On Thursday (28), at Av. Mário Andreazza, Industrial District I, Samsung Electronics' Research and Development Center (SIDIA) showcased the advancements of the only game studio in the Amazon, which sets the benchmark in Brazil and Latin America. They presented the first game created in Manaus, *Galaxy Invasion*, and highlighted job creation in the region with professionals trained in the state, along with a notable project in schools.
The event was attended by Samsung Superintendent Jae Young Kim, Technical Manager Álvaro Gonçalves, and coordinators André Araújo and Sylvia Hwertel from R&D. SIDIA is a hub for leading researchers, with around a thousand people working to make Samsung synonymous with innovation and technology in Brazil. "There are many competent people here in the Amazon to work in this reference center, and also abroad," said Superintendent Jae Young. He announced the creation of a future lab as a reference in the region with investments in the gaming sector. It was also explained that due to tax incentives and the IT law, it is possible to work in research and educational technologies.
**An example of this is the game *Galaxy Evolution*, created for the World Cup event. Coordinator André Araújo introduced the Black River Studios series, inspired by the Rio Negro in the Amazon. After selecting the players, they spent a semester on creation. "In production, it's important to have human resources with experience and knowledge in gaming, design, and technologies. That's why our team also includes professionals from the south of Brazil and abroad," he said.
According to the explanations, the paradigm of buying just the device has changed; now, demand prioritizes the service it offers as a plus. For professionals working in Samsung’s two game teams, there is a lot of freedom during the production phase, especially in the creation and analysis of projects to be developed. Musician Antonio Teoli, responsible for the games' soundtracks, mentioned that each game is a different challenge in composition and that he is pleased to be part of the team. He is from Florianópolis and has experience in 300 games.
"It’s one of the few large studios that provides freedom in work. The relationship with the directors is excellent, as they understand that Samsung cannot only think about product sales but also concerns itself with social issues," emphasized Thais Weller, a journalist trained in Design with a postgraduate degree in the field, who chose to work in games with Samsung.
